The best book of poetry, any style, any school, any width, any vision, this year was Rita Dove's "Sonata Mulatica." It just was and most folk (the blackness folk, the non blackness folk, certainly the theory folk and the lost the "I" folk and the spoken folk) slept on it. All of Dove strengths there, the lyric vision and creative control. 9 Grammys, 3 Oscars and a soft biscuit!
